Our Organization

Suicide Information & Education Services is a non-profit organization that offers information, education, and referral services. We serve Red Deer and the communities of Central Alberta. We provide age appropriate educational programs to children, youth and interested adult groups, as well as referrals and resources to those in need.

Our mission is to ensure that Red Deer and the communities of Central Alberta have access to education, information, support and referral services related to suicide.

Note: All areas outside of Red Deer are subject to a travel fee of $0.52/km. There is no charge for school facilitation. Honorariums are greatly appreciated.

Children and Youth Education

Please note that school session time fills up very quickly each school year; we will do our best to accommodate your request however as much advance notice as possible is appreciated.

Adult Education

Our Adult Education Programs range in length from 1 hour – 7 hours of presentation time and can be customized to meet the needs of the requesting group. Sessions 1-3 hours long usually include discussion of warning signs, facts & fallacies, what to say/do and community resources. Cost is $70/hr. plus mileage and travel time outside of Red Deer.

Sessions over 3 hours are $50/person (minimum of 10 people) and include the same information as above plus risk assessment, safety planning, grief and loss and role plays. Certificates of attendance may also be requested at no additional cost. Mileage is charged at .52/km for travel outside Red Deer. Suicide Information & Education Services does have training space should a requesting group wish to have a session in Red Deer.

Support Services

Living Beyond Suicide Loss is a support group for anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide. While there is no charge for this group, an intake process is in place and we ask that anyone interested contact us prior to the start of group. Please call 403-342-4966.

Intake for each group closes before the start of each 12 week session; you may be placed on a waiting list for the next available group.

Counseling Services – if you are having thoughts of suicide or have a family member struggling with suicidal thoughts you may benefit from meeting with our counselor. There is no charge for this short term service.

Community Helpers

A supportive listening and suicide prevention training program for youth and adults identified by their peers as helping individuals.

This program is available to schools and communities within Central Alberta

  • Training is flexible to accommodate your schedule
  • Training topics can be tailored to meet the needs of the group
  • Training allows participants to meet others in their community and school also identified as helpers
  • Training bridges the gap between the identified helpers and community resources
